Caswell State Park, California

Last Friday morning, I joined the Olli Bird Safari at Caswell State Park, South Austin Road, Ripon, California. The bird safari was led by David Lee. The state park is on a winding bend of the Stanislaus River in the middle of the Central Valley. It’s a rare example of an oak mature riparian forest in California. I took these seven photos mostly of the oaks here and of the the birders looking at diverse bird species in those valley oaks.

Views of a Fall Day in the California Delta

I took these ten images on a recent visit to the Sacramento River Delta Region. The wildlife and sunset images that I took are in the Staten Island Preserve, near Walnut Grove, California.

I always enjoy visiting The Delta. It intrigues me with sights and sounds of wildlife on the Pacific Flyway.

Marine Traffic on the San Joaquin River, California

I took these seven pictures of large marine vessels and motorboats on the San Joaquin River near the Port of Stockton, California. It was a warm beautiful day sitting in my VW Eurovan waiting for boats to pass by.

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Here are some images that I captured on a road trip to Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. I took these photos around the fall equinox. From Artist Point Overlook, I took two photos of Yellowstone Lower Falls. Also, I took a photo of an early morning snow at Scaup Lake. I stayed three nights at Old Faithful Lodge Frontier Cabin where I took a picture of The Old Faithful Geyser. Again I took a few photos of hot springs at the Midway Geyser Basin and West Thump. With good luck, I encountered wildlife and I was able to take some photos of elk and bison. For me, it was quite an adventure. Absolutely, I would like to go back to Yellowstone for another visit.

Morning Departures from the Port of Stockton, California

Here are four pictures that I took of two Cargo Ships. The Lara is docked at Stockton Port while the Pacific Spike is departing the port headed to Japan. Below are three pictures of the Star Lima departing the Port of Stockton via the San Joaquin River through The Delta headed towards East San Francisco Bay.

Water Hyacinths in a Delta Slough, California

Just after sunrise, I took these photos of water hyacinths in a slough near the Middle River in the San Joaquin River Delta. I found these scenic spots along Bacon Island Road off of Highway 4 near Stockton, California. Mount Diablo is the mountain in the background and the railway draw bridge is over the Middle River. Although the water pond hyacinths are beautiful, they frequently clogged the waterways here in the Delta.

Historic Knight’s Ferry, California

I captured these images of Knight’s Ferry and buildings over the Stanislaus River. The covered bridge is the longest in the U.S. west of the Mississippi. The old buildings were first use as a mill and later converted to power generation.

Here are three more images that I captured on different trips and times of day to Knights Ferry via the Old Sonora Road.

Here are some pictures I took on a recent road trip to California’s Eastern Sierra. The trip started in Stockton, California, going east on CA Highway 120 to US Highway 395 ending in Bishop, California. The return trip was on CA Highway 108 over the Sonora Pass to Stockton. Stops and picture taking included Obsidian Dome near Mammoth Lakes, Owens River Valley, Bishop Creek Canyon, and the eastern slope of CA HWY 108. Most of the pictures were taken in Inyo and Mono Counties. For me, it’s always a delight and joy to see the brilliant fall colors in the Eastern Sierra.
