Here are eight images that I took on a Bird Safari at Heritage Oak Winery, East Woodbridge Road, Acampo, California. The Edventure is offered by Olli, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, at University of the Pacific. Our guide is David Yee. Heritage Oak is a popular birding spot in the Central Valley.

Migratory Birds in The Delta

Here are six pictures that I took on a short trip to The San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta Region in California. I took pictures of a Blue Heron, egrets, and swans. It was a beautiful day with the sky and wetlands crowded with  wildlife birds. I used a Nikon D600 FX camera and a Nikon 80 to 400 mm telephoto lens. I also saw a lot of bird watchers too.

Stockton Tertiary Treatment Facility

Here are some pictures I took on a bird safari in the tertiary treatment facility ponds of the City of Stockton, California. There were some birds but I wasn’t able to get near them to take their pictures. But their habitat in the Stockton Wetlands is intriquing to walk through. I used a Nikon D600 FX with a Nikon telephoto 70 to 300 mm lens. It fascinated me to see this efficient waste water treatment wetlands.

Central Florida Excursion

Here are some pictures that I took in Central Florida while visiting family there. I began with a sunset on Clearwater Beach on the Gulf of Mexico and ended with a sunrise on Flagler Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Also I took some pictures of the oldest oak tree in  Pinellas County, Tarpon Springs Sunset Cruise, Eola Lake in Downtown Orlando, Leu Gardens, and Flagler Beach. I used a Nikon D600 FX with Nikon lenses: 20 mm 1.8 wide angle, 50 mm 1.8 normal, and 70 to 300 mm telephoto. Central Florida has lots of beautiful sights to see. For me many more sights to photograph.

Orlando Florida Visit

Here are several pictures that I took while visiting family in Orlando, Florida. I found wildlife birds virtually everywhere in Central Florida. I took pictures downtown Orlando at Eola Lake, Orlando Wetlands Preserve, golf courses, and even backyard bird feeders. I used a Nikon N600 FX with Nikkor lens: wide angle 20 mm, normal 50 mm, and a telephoto 70 to 300 mm. I saw many beautiful wildlife and sunsets.

Skimming on San Joaquin River

Here are four pictures of small gulls skimming on the San Joaquin river. It fascinates me to watch them skim just above the water in the river. They are a challenge to try to capture simply because they fly so fast. I used a Nikon D600 FX with a Nikkor 70-300 mm VR Zoom. A beautiful winter day in The Delta. Continue reading

Sandhill Cranes in The Delta

As a friend and myself followed the Sandhill Cranes and Egrets around The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, I took some pictures of them and the sunset. I used a Nikon D600 FX with a Nikkor Telephoto 80 to 400 mm lens and a Nikkor Wide angle 20 mm lens. Always a joy and a pleasure to follow the cranes in The Delta Region in Northern California.

Woodbridge Ecological Reserve, CA

On a recent visit to Woodbridge Ecological Reserve, California, I took a picture of the new sign erected by the California Department of Fish and Game. Fish and Game flood the reserve for the Sandhill Cranes to roost at night. I understand that the cranes tend to roost in water to avoid their predators like foxes and coyotes. During the day the cranes gleam the harvested corn fields in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. Spinners were added to the power lines to help the cranes to see the lines. I always delight in the return in the fall of these beautiful migratory birds. The reserve is located west of I-5 and the nearest town is Lodi, California.

Dillon Beach, California

Here are some pictures I took while walking along Dillon Beach located near the village of Bodega where Hitchcock’s “The Birdsfilm took place. The beach is located on the northern coast of Marin County, about 60 miles north of San Francisco. Take the Pacific Coastal Highway US 1 north of San Francisco and turn left in Tomales on the Dillon Beach Road. Beautiful beach scenery at the opening of Tomales Bay. Go off season on a weekday simply because you will find that there are fewer people on the beach and quite likely more sun.

Here are more pictures that I took on a recent trip to the Atlantic Coast of Central Florida. The locations include Ponce De Leon Inlet Light Station, Hontoon Island State Park (Island Getaway along the St. John’s River), Tosohatchee State Reserve, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, and Cocoa Beach, Florida.
