Returning Cranes and more on The Delta, California

Here are two groups of photos that I took of returning Sandhill Cranes and other wildbirds on the Pacific Flyway in the Sacramento River Delta Region in California. All the photos were taken along Woodbridge Road and Staten Island Road in The Delta. There were some Sandhill Cranes, a blue heron, some snow geese, an egret, and a snowy egret that I found in nearby ecological preserves. For me, it’s always a joy to see the migratory birds return in the fall and winter months.

Views of a Fall Day in the California Delta

I took these ten images on a recent visit to the Sacramento River Delta Region. The wildlife and sunset images that I took are in the Staten Island Preserve, near Walnut Grove, California.

I always enjoy visiting The Delta. It intrigues me with sights and sounds of wildlife on the Pacific Flyway.

Swans and Geese in Staten Island Preserve, California

Here are five pictures of some tundra swans and cackling geese enjoying one of their favorite spots along the Pacific Flyway. Staten Island Preserve is surrounded by levees in The Delta. I turned my VW Eurovan into a mobile blind. I set up a tripod with a gimbal to support a telephoto lens inside the van where I could sat to shoot photos with the side door open. For me, I had a lot of fun and enjoyment too. And there’s a lot to be thankful too.

Swans, White Geese, and Egret in the Pacific Flyway

I took these photos of white swans, white geese, and a white egret in Staten Island Preserve, California. For me, it’s fun to see so many white migratory birds in one of the Pacific Flyway stops in North California.

Encore!

Here’s a composite photo of an Encore visit to Staten Island Preserve, California. The photo is a composite of several photos. It’s mostly egrets, sandhill cranes and swans. The weather was stormy. Bad weather didn’t seem to bother any of the wildlife there.

Staten Island Preserve: The Champs-Elysées for Migratory Wild birds

As I was taking photos of the migratory birds along Staten Island Road, California, I kept thinking that it’s like a Champs-Elysées for them. It’s a place to see fellow birds and to be seen by fellow birds. There are a lot of cackling geese, tundra swans, and sandhill cranes. The preserve is part of the Nature Conservancy. Happy New Year 2019!
