Here are 16 photos that I took of wildlife at the Staten Island Preserve in the Sacramento River Delta Region, California. I took some on December 27 when the winter moon was approaching fullness. The rest I took on December 29 when the winter moon was full. For me, I always mentally engaged when I’m photographing wild birds in the Preserve. It’s fun for me. Happy New Year 2021!

Rock Creek to UOP to Super Moon
Here are some pictures I took of Rock Creek as the sun was setting in the west. Then I waited for the appearance of the super moon on Sunday evening in the east. I was in a small farming valley in the foothills near Copperopolis, California. Monday evening I took some pictures of Burns Tower and the super moon on the campus of The University of the Pacific, Stockton, California. Awesome experience.
Blue Moon Over The Delta, California
Here are four pictures I took this evening as the Blue Moon or the Green Corn Moon was rising in the southeast as the sun was setting in the west. I use a Nikon D600 FX at times with a Nikon 70 to 300 mm telephoto lens and other times with a Nikon 80 to 400 mm telephoto lens. Next Blue Moon will be July 2015.

2011 Sunsets over The Delta
I took these pictures as the sunset on the last day, December 31, of 2011. I took them along Bacon Road, a levee road, along the Middle River in the San Joaquin River Delta near Stockton, California. The train trestle is one of several that the San Joaquin Amtrak Train crosses on its way from Richmond to Stockton to Bakersfield, California. The geese are flying toward the first quarter moon. The herons are perched in a bare tree in the middle of a swift current flowing in the river. It’s time to uncork the champagne. Happy New Year 2012!
Wildlife on The Delta
The first two pictures are ones that I took recently of sandhill cranes flying over fields in The Delta near Lodi, California. The next four are some pictures I took today of tundra swans and a moonrise over Staten Island in the San Joaquin Delta Region near Walnut Grove, California. On Staten Island the fields are flooded during winter months creating a wildlife habitat. I used a Nikon D300s with a Nikon Telephoto 80-400 mm lens. I also used a gimbal ballhead on a tripod for support and to be able to tract the birds in flight.
Delta Sunsets, Solstice and Lunar Eclipse.
I took these pictures of a Delta Sunset over the Middle River along Bacon Island Road, a levee road. The last picture is one I took of the lunar eclipse on the winter solstice where I live in Stockton, California. I used a Nikon D300s with a prime lens Nikon DX 35 mm for the sunsets and a telephoto Nikon 80 to 400 mm lens for the lunar eclipse.
