Morning Departures from the Port of Stockton, California

Here are four pictures that I took of two Cargo Ships. The Lara is docked at Stockton Port while the Pacific Spike is departing the port headed to Japan. Below are three pictures of the Star Lima departing the Port of Stockton via the San Joaquin River through The Delta headed towards East San Francisco Bay.

Sunset Staten Island Preserve, California

Frequently there are beautiful sunsets on The San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta. I took this sunset from Staten Island Road while Canada geese and sandhill cranes were returning from feeding to their night refuge in flooded cornfields and other wetlands. The Delta is mostly flat with few or small trees so there is mostly an unobstructed view of the sky and sun. The flooded cornfields provide reflecting pools for the sunset colors.

Staten Island Preserve Take 3

I visited Staten Island Preserve for the third time this fall season. It’s located in the California’s Central Valley and is one of the Pacific Flyways. You learn from the Kiosk at the entrance that it’s wildlife friendly farming.  So it’s mostly conservation farms and ranches there. Here are some pictures I took there.

Here are some pictures I took on a recent road trip to California’s Eastern Sierra. The trip started in Stockton, California, going east on CA Highway 120 to US Highway 395 ending in Bishop, California. The return trip was on CA Highway 108 over the Sonora Pass to Stockton. Stops and picture taking included Obsidian Dome near Mammoth Lakes, Owens River Valley, Bishop Creek Canyon, and the eastern slope of CA HWY 108. Most of the pictures were taken in Inyo and Mono Counties. For me, it’s always a delight and joy to see the brilliant fall colors in the Eastern Sierra.

Fall Equinox on Lodi Lake, California

Here’s a mosaic of three pictures I took of Lodi Lake and Mokelumne River. I was participating in a Bird Safari. There were plenty of birds but unfortunately for me they were too small and too fast to photograph. Nonetheless their habit is beautiful.

On an early morning trip to Downtown Stockton, I took a few pictures of the waterfront and the Historic Nippon Hospital. For me, it’s nice to go for a walk in the early morning light. Most everything looks good in the early morning light.

I took these pictures during a trip to visit my sister and her husband who live in Oldsmar, Florida. The first few, I took while on a deep sea fishing trip out of Tarpon Springs, Florida. The next group, I took of Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team which gives free water ski shows at Tower Lake, Oldsmar, Florida. The next group was at a neighbor park. The last group of pictures I took at Sunset Beach, Tarpon Springs, Florida. I especially was delighted to see a small seaplane landing on the beach as the sun went down. For me, it was an awesome visit.

Close Encounters on The Delta

Here are some more pictures that I took recently with the Panasonic G9 of wildlife and sunsets in the Staten Island Preserve. Staten Island Preserve is surrounded on three sides by levees. It’s located in the Sacramento River Delta Region. The nearest town is Walnut Grove, California. The distant mountain in the background is Mount Diablo. It’s another beautiful day in The Delta.

Golden Hour on The Delta

Here are some pictures that I took of San Joaquin River Delta on Woodbridge Road, near Lodi, California.  After a series of rain storms, the fields flooded to create large reflecting pools for the clouds and sunset. The golden hour is a great opportunity to capture dramatic images.
